new work

Latest from the studio - experimenting with the figure, gesture and body language, along with color and the mark. We'll see where this ends up.

Fresher than from the farmer's market,

here are the first pickings from our little garden.

Out of the fog

Wilmington, VT: We arrived here late in the afternoon on July 23, after driving over Hogback mountain in thick fog. Following the signs in town to "free parking", we found ourselves
at the gate of this Victorian era cemetary with a wonderful name.

The House is Clean

It has been spring break, and my greatest accomplishment is...the house is clean! It feels good, looks good, and is a wonderful change from the chaos that reigned up to this point. I just had to photograph the results so that I can look back on this post when things get crazy, to remind me that it can be a serene refuge again.

The best part of the clean house is the sun porch - and miraculously, it was warm enough to enjoy it for about an hour yesterday afternoon. This is my favorite spot to relax, and reminds me of the summers of my childhood. I spent many hours on the side porch of my childhood home. It was screened in, and covered with ivy. We could see out, but no one could see it. It was private, cool and calm. My sunporch is not that secluded, but the curtains help keep out the sun when it is beating down on the front of the house.

I also, finally, got around to hanging up art work and photographs recently. It feels like home again for the first time in quite a long time.

Yesterday, I bought lots of flowers. My first motivation was to photograph them, and use the photos as references for a series of flower paintings. After the pictures were taken, though, it gave me great pleasure to arrange them in vases and scatter them all through the house - tulips, lillies, daisies...all from Safeway. But the grape hyacinths came from my own front yard.

My youngest is 21

Sister made the cake. Boyfriend bought her the flowers.

Ice storm eliminated many guests from the party, but we had a great time anyway.
